What do I ask my hairstylist for?

I have a pattern of cutting my hair short, letting it grow to neck/top of the shoulder length and cutting again. I've been after a certain look for some time and I feel I may be expressing myself incorrectly to my stylist because I keep getting the wrong thing. I want a rough, layered "punk" page boy 'do that falls just to the middle of my ears. I've used these precise words and even brought in pictures of what I want and she continues to give me a very finished looking mushroom/bob look, which I don't hate but it's not what I'm looking for. And even with flat ironing and styling wax, I can't achieve the look I want. So, am I expressing my wants poorly to my stylist? Should I just go elsewhere and try my luck with someone else?

Oh my God I totally know what you mean. I had a certain look I wanted and had to go to two stylists to get it right. It seemed that the first one just thought she'd spin her own interpretation to what I wanted. The second looked at the picture and said, "Sweety, never go back to that place again". It looked exactly like the picture when she was done. She even showed me how to style it. My advice is to try a different salon. Different stylists have different strengths.

Definetly go somewhere else, I am a hairstylist and I am amazed how many stylist their are out there that have no clue what they are doing. They may just not know what they are doing. I say if you gave them a picture and they still couldn't figure it out, it's time to move to a different stylist.
