I have a bob cut and i am naturally blonde but for years i have been dying it a very dark brown with permanant hair colours from the chemist. i really want to lighten it to a mid brown but how how can i do this? i dont want to have to grow it out cause not only would that take ages but it would look awful! so is there any other way i can do it? please help!

I would start to dye the hair with a lighter brown than what you have been using, but use colour rinse that will wash out in a few weeks. Keep using it until the permanent colour has grown out. This way it will look good until then. I always use non permanent colour rinse, so I can change the colour with the seasons. And the colour fades evenly and roots never show.

anyways, you could dye it a light brown the same way you've been dying your hair dark brown.

or you could do what i do, which is mix salt, lemon and water together, soak my hair in it, then let my hair dry in the sun. BUT i've kept my natural blonde colour, so it might not work for dark brown hair which is from a dye, or it might make the dyed colour go funny? anyways its worth a try and it doesn't make a dramatic change when i do this, unless i do it a lot. so like it said: it's worth a try.

the lemon juice thing i think only works if your going to be in the sun. a few days ago i wet all my hair with lemon juice and dried it with the blower. nope it's as dark as it was. i think your going to have to end up redyeing it.

I had the same problem as I have natrually ashblonde hair but have dyed in intensedark brown since i was about 14, I think the best way is to allow your hair to grow out about an inch or two using plenty of hair bands to disguse your roots! Then go to your hair dressers and get a good mixture of blonde AND brown streaks, then as these grow out replace them with less brown and more blonde. It may take a while but I really think this is the best way to get back to your natural coulour and experiment with a few different styles before you go natrally blonde for the summer.
